Koh Woon-Puay is Professor at Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. She received her MBBS (Honours) from NUS, her PhD in Immunology from the University of Sydney, Australia, and postdoctoral training in University of Southern California in USA. As an epidemiologist, she is interested in the roles of genes, diet and lifestyle factors in the epidemiology of chronic diseases and ageing outcomes. Her research incorporates her knowledge in clinical medicine and training in laboratory science with epidemiologic methods to unravel putative mechanistic pathways in disease aetiology. She is the Principal Investigator of the Singapore Chinese Health Study, a 63,257-strong cohort of middle-aged and elderly Chinese Singaporeans established for the long-term study of dietary and environmental determinants of chronic diseases common among Singaporeans. Professor Koh has co-authored over 450 scientific papers on diet, lifestyle and genes in relation to risk of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gout, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, tuberculosis disease, cognitive impairment and physical frailty in ageing. Besides research, her other passion is in mentoring, and in her capacity as Assistant Dean for Faculty Development, she leads efforts in developing young faculty and clinician-scientists in their research careers.
