Vicente Artola Arita is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Global Public Health & Bioethics, UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands. Vicente is also a Guest Professor at the School of Public Health, University of El Salvador, Central America and scientific advisor for the French television channel France24 and the National Institute of Health, El Salvador. Vicente Artola Arita obtained his MD at Universidad de El Salvador, El Salvador in 2012. In 2015, he obtained his MSc in Health Administration at Universidad Andrés, El Salvador and in 2017, his MSc in Human Immunodeficiency Virus at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain. In 2019, he obtained his Doctorate Degree in Research and Teaching from Universidad Centro Panamericano de Estudios Superiores, Mexico. Between 2014 and 2018, he worked as a researcher and facilitator of research designs and ethics in governmental institutions in El Salvador, the National Institute of Health and the Salvadoran Institute of Social Security. In 2018, he moved to the Netherlands to pursue his PhD at the University Medical Center Groningen in cardiovascular diseases, focusing on atrial fibrillation, heart failure and sex differences using echocardiographic parameters and biomarkers. During his PhD he obtained the prize of best thesis project pitch in the 3-minute thesis competition in the Netherlands.His work focuses now on cardiometabolic diseases, lifestyle interventions and determinants of health at the population level.
