Dr. Pan is a Professor of epidemiology and Dean of the School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research mainly focuses on the determinants and consequences of obesity and chronic metabolic diseases, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He has published over 300 SCI papers with citations over 18000 and an H-index of 73, including papers on NEJM, JAMA, BMJ. He is supported by the NSFC regular and key projects, the National Key Research & Development project, and is establishing cohort studies for type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus to investigate their causes and consequences. He currently serves as an associate editor for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and Nutrition & Metabolism, and on the editorial board for several other international and Chinese journals. He is also the vice-chair of the Basic Nutrition Council and Nutritional Epidemiology Council of the Chinese Nutrition Society.
