Research output needs to be disseminated via publication. Learning to write a good scientific paper is akin to writing a good story – it is not only the content, i.e. the data, that matters, but the way the story is told, i.e. the presentation and interpretation of data, that determines the success of a scientific paper.
In this course, the ethics, general principles and tips for writing a good scientific paper will be taught, using practical examples from the literature. There will also be a chance to practice writing and to receive critique.
This writing workshop focuses on the presentation and style of publications in epidemiologic research.
Topics include ethics in publication, construction of sentences and choice of words, guidelines on writing the introduction, methods, results and discussion, and responding to reviewers’ comments.
Assessment includes a chance to critique each other’s writing.
