On February 27, 2024, The Lancet Regional Health – Southeast Asia published online a review article on delayed care of cardiovascular events under the joint guidance of Professor Vicente Artola Arita of Utrecht University, and Professor Zeng Tieying, Deputy Director of the Department of Nursing, affiliated Tongji Hospital of Tongji Medical College, HUST, titled "Shortening delays in seeking aid for cardiovascular events: a step beyond".

Lang Xi and Zhu Zining, two School of Nursing master’s students, are the co-first authors. Qian Yinqi, a School of Nursing undergraduate student is the third author. Prof. Vicente Artola Arita and Prof. Zeng Tieying are the co-corresponding authors. Professor Zeng is the academic advisor of the two master's students.

This review article makes suggestions for methodological refinements to the article, "Prevalence and determinants of delays in care among premature deaths due to acute cardiac conditions and stroke in residents of a district in India" published in May 2023 by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Delayed effective medical care is a risk factor for poor prognosis of acute cardiovascular events. The original article designed a mixed study with a social audit as the main subject to explore the causes of delayed care in a population of premature deaths due to cardiovascular events in India to guide the reduction of delay. The review article suggests that future large-scale mixed studies should incorporate a rich set of potential influencing factors along with the precise inclusion of study subjects; conduct multiple regression analyses for different diseases in quantitative analyses, and investigate the views and recommendations of various stakeholders in qualitative probes in order to further refine the original study design for more accurate causes of delay.

This review article was published by School of Nursing students after participating in the course "Clinical Applications of Epidemiology" taught by Prof. Vicente Artola Arita during the "2023 Tongji Summer School". It shows the potential of cooperation between Nursing and Public Health, as well as further strengthening the international influence and academic partnership between the two universities.
