2024 | Global Health: A changing landscape

This comprehensive course delves into the dynamic and complex world of global health, exploring the multifaceted challenges and opportunities that define health outcomes across diverse populations. Through a series of modules, students will gain a deep understanding of the definition and scope of global health, the determinants of health, and a variety of interconnected complexities and challenges that are disrupting progress in health around the globe.

Topics include:

- Overview of global health, including its definition and scope;

- Examination of key global health issues and challenges;

- Discussion of health equity and the determinants of health;

- Exploration of global health governance and funding;

- Analysis of infectious diseases, including epidemiology, prevention, and control strategies;

- Investigation of the burden of aging populations and non-communicable diseases, including risk factors and intervention strategies;

- Overview of global mental health challenges;

- Examination of maternal and child health, including challenges and interventions;

- Discussion of environmental health issues, such as climate change, pollution, and their health impacts;

- Exploration of the health implications of conflicts and migration;

- Analysis of equitable access to health care and the challenges faced in achieving it;

- Examination of the healthcare workforce and issues related to its distribution and migration;

- Exploration of digital health, innovation, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in transforming global health;

- Discussion of the principles of equity in global health partnerships and strategies to ensure fair collaboration.

Course will include guest lectures, case studies, discussion and interactive exercises. Throughout the course, students will participate in discussions and critically analyze course content.

This course is designed for students interested in global health issues and improved access to health care and better health care for all.
